Summer's End

September is here, and with it is the best of Ontario's late summer harvest. Arguably the best part of the harvest for the entire season!

You'll see seasonal favourites like peaches, nectarines, and berries, as well as plums, and melons of all sorts. You'll find the most amazing cauliflower, celery, cucumber, zucchini, lettuce, sweet corn, parsnips, and the start of squashes and fall goodies. (check out whats in season here)

September is a time of transition, not only for the Market, but for our families and guests. Back to school and end of summer vacations are on everyone's mind. The days are starting to get shorter, and that glorious afternoon fall light is starting to creep in.

Anyone will tell you I am a summer person. The heat, the sun, the bright long days are what I long for all year. However fall market days bring with them some of the most comforting & familiar experiences - flavours like apple pie, preserves and maple start to feel warm and welcoming. They remind me of warm sweaters and cozy crisp evenings spent with friends and family.

You can usually find me with a hot coffee from my friends at Silvercreek (no more cold brew once the thermometer dips) or Heather's Bakery on a cool morning, and breakfast from Sweetie Pies, Rachel's or the Veal guys.

There are so many amazing things to discover at the Farmer's Market this fall, I hope that you will join us!

Events & the Market

Events are an important part of the Georgetown Farmers Market. We are fortunate to have an incredible, popular forum with which to promote great local initiatives and charities.

Sometimes, for the average market goer, large events such as Bike It can seem daunting. The added people, the entertainment, the congestion - all make it a challenge if you are just looking for your groceries.

Our message is always primarily, to 'Eat Local'. We want to support our local farms, because without them this amazing market wouldn't exist. From time to time I hear concerns that we have lost that message. I assure you, supporting local food is and will always continue to be our primary, most important initiative at the Georgetown Farmer's Market.

Our other regular market events such as the Raspberry Festival, Grillicious, and Family Fun days are designed to compliment the market. Most highlight seasonal crops. Some work to build bridges and to expose people to fresh local food when they may not have previously seen it as a viable option for their groceries.

In the end, Bike it to the Market has become one of our biggest events of the season. It raises a huge amount of awareness for the Bike Challenge and helps with all of those logged kilometers!

I'd like to sincerely thank everyone who came out, market goers and shoppers alike for the unwavering support we receive every week. You can be assured that we are back to business as usual this coming long weekend. So please make sure to come and check out the Market!

Bikes & The Farmer's market

Sunny, summer days, bikes, and the Farmer's market. What a wonderful combination! Imagine coasting through old Georgetown with the freshest local produce in your basket.

We love our local cyclists at the Georgetown Farmer's Market! Whether you're a die hard enthusiast, or a weekend warrior, or a family out for a tour of the town, all are welcome everyday, but especially on Bike it to the Market day on June 25!

On June 25 you can ride to the market, park in the south parking lot in the special & secure bike corral, grab a free pancake breakfast, enjoy demo's, activities, and entertainment for the whole family, including a giant musical bike & our unicycle rider! We only ask that you walk your bike through the market (it gets busy!) and respect the pedestrians and cars that we share our space with.

While you're here please visit with vendors and the businesses along Main Street. Enjoy a fresh cup of coffee, grab your weekly groceries, and check out all of our artisans & local crafters.

Oh, and make sure not to forget to log your km's for the Community Bike Challenge!

Ride mindful, ride safe & enjoy the day!
